Job Description
Community Counsellor
Job Summary
To provide clinically sound, timely, therapeutic community based counselling to clients who are victims or perpetrators of domestic violence. (30 hours per week)
 
Qualifications
  • MSW or equivalent with at least three years experience in individual and group work;
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Registered Social Workers and Social Service Workers or equivalent organization is preferred;
  • Clinical experience in therapeutic group and individual interventions;
  • Excellent understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and its impact on clients and issues they face;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills;
  • Related experience working in other social service organizations;
  • Computer literacy essential;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
 
Responsibilities:
may include the following:
  • Provide individual and group counselling for women and men involved in domestic violence relationships;
  • Complete individually tailored safety plans for clients at risk;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental programs;
  • Input client information on data base;
  • Assume case management responsibilities for clients connected with various services;
  • Provide case planning and advocacy for clients;
  • Organize and conduct case conferences for clients;
  • Prepare reports for social service agencies, courts and other groups as required;
  • To assume other responsibilities including but not limited to working in the women’s, men’s and/or children’s counselling programs.
 
Accountabilities
  • Adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality;
  • Work cooperatively with all staff, volunteers and members of the community at large to serve the best interests of the organization;
  • Ensure timely and clinically effective sharing of information with the Partner Contact Program as needed;
  • Maintain a high level of clinical expertise in service delivery;
  • Ensure evaluations are complete for all clients who receive service;
  • Ensure all recording and documentation is completed in a timely manner and meets professional standards;
  • Remain current with relevant information and interventions concerning working with clients who have experienced domestic violence.
