Job Summary
To ensure that women and children, who are victims of domestic violence and/or are homeless, are provided a safe and secure environment. |

Qualifications |
- Post Secondary diploma/degree in the social services field;
- Familiarity with the issues of domestic violence and homelessness including knowledge of the community and resources available to women and their children;
- Possess a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate;
- Ability to work independently and make independent and informed decisions;
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills;
- Excellent working knowledge of telephone crisis intervention and one to one crisis intervention;
- Computer literacy essential;

Responsibilities may include all of the following: |
- Provide supportive crisis counseling and referral to women and their children on an as needed basis;
- Assess the occasional “walk-in” client and provide supportive crisis counseling and appropriate referral;
- Provide an orientation of the shelter and its routines to new residents;
- Complete data input and documentation for new admissions;
- Willing and able to work all shifts including day, evening, nights and weekends;
- Other duties as assigned.

Accountabilities |
- Ensure residents receive appropriate and timely crisis counseling;
- Complete intakes within 24 hours after admission;
- Ensure safety issues are addressed for residents;
- Adhere to a strict policy of client confidentiality;
- Complete shift changes in an efficient and timely manner;
- Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and meetings;
- Adhere to agency policies and procedures at all times;
- Keep client files up to date and ensure that 1A forms, daily recording, etc., are completed in a timely manner;
- Work cooperatively with all staff, volunteers and members of the community at large to serve the best interest of the agency.
