Job Summary
To ensure that women and children, who are victims of domestic violence and/or are homeless, are provided a safe and secure environment.
 
Qualifications
  • Post Secondary diploma/degree in the social services field;
  • Familiarity with the issues of domestic violence and homelessness including knowledge of the community and resources available to women and their children;
  • Possess a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate;
  • Ability to work independently and make independent and informed decisions;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills;
  • Excellent working knowledge of telephone crisis intervention and one to one crisis intervention;
  • Computer literacy essential;
 

Responsibilities may include all of the following:

  • Provide supportive crisis counseling and referral to women and their children on an as needed basis;
  • Assess the occasional “walk-in” client and provide supportive crisis counseling and appropriate referral;
  • Provide an orientation of the shelter and its routines to new residents;
  • Complete data input and documentation for new admissions;
  • Willing and able to work all shifts including day, evening, nights and weekends;
  • Other duties as assigned.
 

Accountabilities

  • Ensure residents receive appropriate and timely crisis counseling;
  • Complete intakes within 24 hours after admission;
  • Ensure safety issues are addressed for residents;
  • Adhere to a strict policy of client confidentiality;
  • Complete shift changes in an efficient and timely manner;
  • Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and meetings;
  • Adhere to agency policies and procedures at all times;
  • Keep client files up to date and ensure that 1A forms, daily recording, etc., are completed in a timely manner;
  • Work cooperatively with all staff, volunteers and members of the community at large to serve the best interest of the agency.
 

This is a bargaining unit position.
