BASKETEERS

Basketeers was started out of the Greater Toronto Area more than 10 years ago because of an oversight: It was easy to find groups willing to buy or sponsor Christmas gifts for children, but their mothers seemed to be forgotten. Considering many women leave their homes with little more than the clothes on their back, the original concept was to "support women in new beginnings" throughout the GTA and has grown to cover eight major areas across Ontario.

In 2009 we were collectively able to donate 50 beautifully wrapped baskets to the many abused women living at Nova Vita over the holiday season and in 2010 we were able to donate 115 not only to the women of Nova Vita, but also in transitional housing and Ganohkwasra – an emergency shelter for women in Oshweken!

It is wonderful to see this campaign grow each year and encourage abused women in our community that people out there care. In 2011, we donated over 130 baskets to the residents at Nova Vita, Ojistoh House, Ganohkwasra and Haldimand Women’s Services. Thank so much for your generous donations; we couldn’t do this without you!

To register for a basket please contact Michelle at mheaslip@novavita.org or 519-752-1005 ext. 232.

Please indicate which theme basket you will be making – kitchen or bed and bath. A volunteer driver will deliver the number of Rubbermaid baskets to you – remember to include your address with your confirmation email as well.
